Advocacy is one of the core services provided. This service includes assisting persons with understanding the community and state services available, and helping individuals determine how to gain access to such services that may be needed to help them gain or maintain community independence. Core services also include information and referral, peer mentoring and independent living skills programs. We serve a cross disability population requiring a working knowledge of multiple disabilities and how they may impact a person's independence at home or in the community.
Disability Achievement Center has been operating in these counties since 1994. Disability Achievement Center has routinely been involved in local, statewide and national advocacy on many systemic issues preventing or deterring independence. We most recently collaborated with the FL Department of Children and Families on Nursing Home Transition for adults with disabilities to return to community independence. We also provide employment services including placement, pre-employment skills training and vocational mentoring.
